The Philippines

The Philippines is a breathtaking country – with over 7,000 islands, deciding which ones to visit can feel overwhelming. That’s why we’ve curated this simple yet epic 2 and 3-week itinerary to help you make the most of your adventure!

Before you read into that, we wanted to provide you with some important information before you travel below.

Visa Requirements

To enter the Philippines, you must register with the ‘e-travel’ system before boarding your flight to the Philippines. You can register up to 72 hours before departure.

Not many people realize this, but to enter the Philippines as a visitor, you must have a ticket for your return or onward travel.
We booked a flexible plane ticket on booking.com to our next destination so that we could cancel or move it if we wanted to extend our visa.

To stay more than 30 days, you can apply for an extension when you are in the Philippines.

Climate

The Philippines, a tropical paradise, experiences two primary seasons: the dry season from December to April and the wet season from May to November.

However, some islands follow different weather patterns! We visited in December, and still experienced some rain, but overall it was good weather. Generally, it’s best to avoid July to October, as typhoons are more frequent during this time—bringing unpredictable adventures you might not want on your itinerary!

Safety

The Philippines is generally a safe destination for travelers, especially in popular tourist areas. However, like any country, it’s important to stay aware of your surroundings. Petty crimes like pickpocketing can occur in busy cities, so keep your belongings secure. When island-hopping or taking boat tours, ensure operators follow proper safety guidelines.

Avoid isolated areas at night, and always check local travel advisories, especially in more remote regions. I always kept my trusty Osprey bum bag attached to me, and we bought these anti-theft zip locks which have been amazing for night markets! As long as you take common-sense precautions, you’ll find the Philippines to be a welcoming and friendly place to explore!

Sim Card

If you prefer to use an e-sim across multiple countries in Asia, we recommend this one. As we were there a while, we decided to install the GlobalOne app which is a specific network provider in the Philippines, and purchase the 30-day tourist sim, which was reasonably priced and our data lasted the entire trip.

We recommend doing this a few days in advance of your trip – if you decide to use Global One, your data will not go-live until you arrive in the Philippines.
