Our Top Philippines Beers

A glass of refreshing cold beer being poured from a tap in a cozy bar setting.

After much “research”, here are MSL’s top Philippines beers to drink!

Beer is the most consumed alcoholic drink in the Philippines and we were delighted to find that the Philippines has a growing craft beer scene. We enjoyed many cold beers while relaxing on exotic Philippines beaches and taking in glamorous sunsets during our travel adventure there.

Coron Brewery craft beer: Coron Island, Palawan

We went to The Brewhouse Coron before our Coron to El Nido boat trip. There is a courtyard, live music and lots of food stalls to sample while drinking top Philippines beer. Check out the pizzas and cheesecake! Coron Brewery offer a wide range of Filipino craft beers, our top pick: Irako IPA. In El Nido we found their craft beers at Rooftop Bar, which also has a tattoo shop attached (best to go there before the beer!).

    Palaweno Brewery: Puerto Princesca, Palawan

Serving Ayahay craft beers, Palaweno Brewery is Ayah Javier’s creation, who having tasted craft beer in the USA, brought it to the Philippines. The brewery run by the Philippines first female craft beer brewers and they have gained international recognition, featuring in “The Ultimate Guide to the World’s Best Craft Beers” list by American Express. We went to the taproom in Puerto Princesca, where they also offer a microbrewery tour. You can find their beers across the Philippines. Our top pick: FLIP (Fun Loving Island People), the true Filipino beer.

    San Miguel Pale Pilsen

Found everywhere in the Philippines and across the world, San Miguel Pale Pilsen is the flagship beer for San Miguel Brewery. It is the best selling beer in the Philippines and you can find it everywhere, whether on tap, in bottles or cans. Best enjoyed while eating Filipino food such as sisig, or enjoying sunsets on Philippine beaches. San Miguel also offer a Light beer.

        San Miguel Lemon Flavoured Beer

Perfect when you need a refreshing cold beer after days spent on the Philippines beaches. At 3%, it is very drinkable, reminding us of lemonade-beer shandy or a Radler. Apple and lychee flavours exist, but lemon was our favourite. This is a top Philippines beer found all over the Philippines Islands.

        Red Horse Beer

Red Horse beer is an extra strong beer and cousin of San Miguel Pale Pilsen. Also brewed by San Miguel Brewery, it is nicknamed “The Laughing/Happy Horse” due to its logo. Be warned, it is 6.9% and creates quite the hangover. Found all over the Philippines.

Odessa Mama Cafe & Boodmo Brewery: El Nido, Palawan

Finally, we had to mention Odessa Mama Cafe & Boodmo Brewery, based in El Nido, they sell Ukrainian craft beer. We watched the sport while enjoying a cold beer here and it is worth the visit. Our Top Pick: Cadlao IPA
